This limitation hinders creating really useful 3rd-party software. Those were the good old days.ģrd Party Product LImitations with Newer Kontakt Files If you should ever want to use another sampler, either for a limited time/purpose or you choose to completely switch over, all the files that YOU possess are mostly locked into Kontakt and you will find it less than optimum to use them elsewhere.Īgain, this wasn't the case in Kontakt v4.1 and earlier. What this means for you is that if you ever want to play Kontakt 4.2/5 files with another sampler, or want to play it on a earlier version of Kontakt, you will NOT get the full programming of the instrument. Also Kontakt Banks (.nkb) and Kontakt Presets(.nkp) can't be read. Plus various other incidental Program and Group parameters, and Slice information (when Beat Machine is enabled). What we can't access are the modulators (LFO's, Envelopes, Velocity, Pressure, or any external MIDI), Filters, and Effects. This is important for our products like Translator™, Constructor™, and Kontakt Assistant™, whose functions are magnified if we have access to all the information the file posseses. More specifically: With any Kontakt v4.2 or Kontakt 5 file that you create or possess, you only have external access (other than Kontakt itself) to a subset of the parameters. Although we appreciate NI's cooperation, we've been talking with them about this shortcoming for some time now, but with no success. Since then, due to NI's helpful assistance, we have access - but only partial access. We were always able to read the totality of a Kontakt file, but since Kontakt version 4.2 (and Battery 3.2) Native Instruments changed their file format. Several Native Instruments products include our Conversion Engine for loading in a wide variety of formats.īut it's not perfect in paradise. Native Instrument's Kontakt sampler rocks, and dominates the sample-playback world.Ĭhicken Systems has supported Kontakt in a special way since it's release. You can also finance some libraries out over time through sites like Sweetwater.Chicken Systems Inc : News : 20150811 : Kontakt InKomplete I know I picked up Heavyocity and Output stuff on sales. Most of all, look for bundles on sale if possible. I find a lot of the synthier stuff can be done with synths, so I look for realistic instrument stuff when it comes to Kontakt libraries. Requiem or Requiem Light is solid choice for choirs. Impact Soundworks makes some good stuff as well (Mega Brass being a cheaper option for epic brass stuff, Super Audio Cart being a neat option if you like retro video game/chiptune sounds). Output has some amazing stuff like Exhale for vocal chops, Rev, Analog Strings, Analog Brass, etc. If you want more epic orchestral stuff, keep an eye out for sales by anything from Heavyocity (Forzo, Novo, Vento, Gravity, Cinematic Scoring Guitar expansions, etc.). NI also has some solid mixing FX plugins like Transient Master which is perfect for tightening your trap drums, and Replika XT, one of my favorite delay plugins. They have also been going into some crazy XY pad sound design instruments like Thrill, Straylight, Pharlight, Arkhis, etc. I think you should aim for upgrading to NI Komplete as much as possible because you get not only their entire Kontakt library, but standalone synths like Massive, FM8 and Reaktor (itself the Kontakt of synths) and more. Depends what you want to do and what styles of trap.
